Now is the time to start preparing your autumn/winter wardrobe. Whether you are planning on revamping your old closet or treating yourself to some new statement pieces, it’s good to know what Autumn fashion trends will be popular during the coming months.
Various catwalks and fashion shows which took place earlier in the year displayed some of the trendy fits which everyone will be wearing from late September. But don’t forget, a new season doesn’t necessarily mean you have to ditch your old clothes and buy everything new. The pieces we’ve picked out can be styled in different ways and re-worn on a variety of occasions to promote opting for a more sustainable wardrobe.
Basics are Back
It seems this year, less is more. Who would’ve thought a white tank top would be stealing the show at London Fashion Week? A nice top and jeans combo has never been made simpler.
Throw a white vest on with any pair of trousers and you could walk the runway one day.
Also, as it’s so plain and simple, it means it’s easily accessible and won’t cost you a lot. To
style this (some may say basic) top, gold jewellery and a bold belt will create a great outfit. H&M is a great place to look for autumn and winter staple pieces, all at an affordable price.
The Brighter the Better
Think bold, highlighter shades. Neon pink, yellow and green are more unexpected for autumn, but it seems they could create a great outfit. A bright blazer and trousers co-ord could be your go-to for the office in September. Make a statement and stand out. If neon colours are a bit out of your comfort zone, which is completely understandable, why not try a bright bag to start off with if you love it, then venture out to brighter clothing at a later date?
Knitwear is a must (but that was obvious)
It seems knitwear is always popular during the autumn. Whether you choose a knitted dress, a cable knit jumper or a cropped knitted vest, these pieces of clothing can be worn throughout the winter months. You can even mix the different trends and get a brightly coloured, knitted sweatshirt to make a statement and stay cosy.
Bomber Jackets are still in
Bomber jackets have come and gone but this year, they will be great to wear out and about. There are different styles of this jacket. Most brands do faux leather bomber jackets, which are normally accessorised with a fur collar to keep you warm and cosy. These are great for a night of cocktails with friends.
A satin jacket could be more appropriate for a club night out. It’ll keep you warm when queuing to get inside, whilst still being light enough to wear around your waist when you get in, ready to dance the night away. If you’re going on an autumnal walk to pick pumpkins and take pictures surrounded by fallen leaves, a brown bomber jacket lined with fur is a great choice.
Corset tops for a night out
We may not want to bare our mid-drift area anymore but corsets are back. TikTok has seen corset tops blow up across the app, causing them to sell out at increasingly fast rates after users style them and rave about how they managed to get their hands on one.
Following Bridgerton’s debut on Netflix, the period drama set in the 1800s, the corset-style top came back into fashion. These corset tops are easy to wear and will continue to be a hit in the coming winter months. Perfect when styled with a pair of wide-leg jeans and a cute quilted bag.
Back to Y2K
Y2K will continue to reign supreme throughout 2023. This style refers to fashion from the late 90s to the early 2000s and is popular among different influencers and celebrities. Cargo trousers, mini skirts, and trance-style tops are a few of the pieces that should be added to your wardrobe or you may already own these classic items. Apps such as Depop and Vinted can be great places to find Y2K items and a great way to shop sustainably and ethically.
