The first episode of Made In Chelsea: Mallorca, brought us an engagement, a secret relationship and a hot new bombshell entering the show. Despite a change in location, the drama, arguments and rocky relationships did not fail to provide some top-quality entertainment for a Monday evening.
So, where to begin? James and Maeva actually got engaged, despite James brutally rejecting her as she was down on one knee at the end of the last season. It was really, really hard to watch so the fact that he popped the question at the Trevi Fountain in Rome and she said yes, I think it means he's finally out of the dog house. Also, the maturity of the cast seems to have miraculously improved, with Miles managing to spit out the words 'congratulations' through gritted teeth. It was the right thing for him to do, but you could tell he was in absolute dismay that they're still together and probably doesn't have much faith in the marriage lasting.
We discovered that Julius has had a secret girlfriend for two years (or a 'fling' as he likes to call her). She showed up out of nowhere, in true Love Island bombshell fashion, demanding answers about the past and his feelings. He had nowhere to hide. Apparently she thought they were together but he just couldn't stop dating other women. Julius, when are you going to learn. You're on a reality TV show that is aired to millions of people, every single week. How did you think you would get away with it?
"She called me a dick, and she walked off." - Julius
I always wonder if the original cast have any incline that their ex partners or friends are going to enter the show 'unannounced' because it happens so often. Surely he knew this was coming.
Ruby and Rez are on the rocks... again. It seems this trip away is 'make or break' for them as Rez said, but I think I've heard that one too many times before, but they're somehow still together. I'm definitely expecting another break up from them at some point during this season.
Emily and Miles are still flirting and pretending like there is no sexual tension between them but I personally think, although they could be good together and they already have an amazing friendship which could grow into a relationship, Miles still can't be trusted. And not only that, Emily deserves a lot better. After the trauma she went through with Harvey, she deserves a man who worships the ground she walks on.
As I got closer to the end of the episode, it was clear Tristen decided to make a move on India. I think it's partly to spite Julius because the two of them don't see eye to eye, but also she is just his type as she looks like a clone of Emma, Digby's ex.
India telling Julius that she was going to stay for the whole summer was just hilarious to me because of course she is. She's not going to miss a free holiday in Mallorca that will be full of single men, boost her presence on social media and give her a brand new career as an influencer. I highly doubt she 'happened' to be in Mallorca at the exact same time that the MIC cast were, and now she just 'happens' to be able to take how ever many weeks off work to film the show. It doesn't seem like a coincidence to me.
Although not directly addressed in tonight's episode, I have seen on social media that Liv and Tristen have rekindled their relationship, so I think Tristan's ploy to get India to stay was truly in spite of Julius. Despite the toxicity of Liv and Tristan's whirlwind romance, part of me does love them together. When they're good, they're amazing so I really hope there is more content of them together in this series.
I can't finish this review without mentioning the two randos who have now joined the cast. Willow and Malek? I have so many questions. Were they scouted before the show? Do they actually live in Mallorca? Why is the only question they get asked 'are you single'? I am quite baffled as to what they will bring to the show but hopefully their personalities will come out more as the show goes on and they will ruffle some feathers.
*update* I've continued watching and Malek owns a beach club so the reason why they are on the show is starting to make sense.
Okay wait, another update: Julius said he could see India being his girlfriend?? This girl CANNOT take him back he has taken it too far already. But, let's be honest we all know they're going to at least have a drunken kiss, probably then get back together, argue, break up again and then she'll never be on the show again. But, let's watch this space.
Sorry I'm writing this as it happens so it is a bit manic, but Rez and Ruby are arguing again. Shock. And in front of another couple, why does this always happen it's so awkward. Also, it's like these people forget they're being filmed. They'll say something about someone behind their back, and then be surprised that it's got around the whole group and that someone has snaked them. Like, it's a TV show what do you expect to happen?
And, during the last five minutes of the show. my PREDICTION CAME TRUE. Liv and Tristan out of nowhere are suddenly back on. The interest in India was all a ploy to annoy Julius, and it worked. I really hope Liv and Tristan last this time because they're clearly meant to be together. They can never stay broken up for very long, and like I said, when they're good, they're really good.
I can't wait for, not even next week, tomorrow! All episodes are being streamed this week because, even better, Married at First Sight starts again next week. I am so glad my diss is almost done because I need my evenings free to watch all these programmes.
